Traditional Sami music is centered around a particular vocal style called joik. Originally, joik referred to only one of several Sami singing styles, but in English the word is often used to refer to all types of traditional Sami singing. Its sound is comparable to the traditional chanting of some American Aboriginal cultures.
Traditional North Germanic Norwegian vocal music includes (kvad), ballads and short, often improvised songs (stev), among the most common types of traditional music. Work songs, hymns, tralling vocals and old printed ballad stories, skillingsviser, have also been popular.
Norway shares some Nordic dance music tradition with its neighbouring countries of Sweden and Denmark, where the most typical instrument is the fiddle. In Norway, the Hardanger fiddle (hardingfele), the most distinctive instrument in Norwegian folk music, looks and plays like a standard violin. It is only to be found primarily in the western and central part of the country. The Hardanger fiddle dates back to around 1700 and however differs from the ordinary fiddle in many respects. The most important of these is that it has sympathetic strings and a less curved bridge and fingerboard. Thus, the performer plays on two strings most of the time, creating a typical bourdon style. The Hardanger fiddle tradition is rich and powerful. By traditional, orally conveyed instruction was one of the most important aspects of a Hardanger fiddle player's accomplishment.Norway music ,Norwegian music, song of norway, norway music festival, music of norway, norway music festival, music from norway.I have made songs for a while ,and many of my songs are on revernation if you have heard about reverbnation? From traditional folk music to modern electronic beats, Norway has produced a wide range of influential artists who have made their mark on the global music scene. Norway is a country in Northern Europe with a population of around 5.4 million people as of 2021. The country has a long and complex history, with evidence of human settlement dating back to the Stone Age. Over the centuries, Norway has been inhabited by various groups, including the Vikings, who played a significant role in shaping the country's culture and traditions.
Music has always been an essential part of Norwegian culture, with a rich tradition of folk music that dates back to medieval times. Folk music played an important role in rural communities, where it was used to tell stories, celebrate religious festivals, and mark significant life events such as weddings and funerals. The traditional Norwegian folk music is characterized by its haunting melodies and intricate rhythms, which are often played on instruments such as the Hardanger fiddle, a type of violin that is unique to Norway.
The 20th century saw significant changes in Norwegian society, which had a profound impact on the country's music scene. In the early part of the century, Norway was still primarily a rural and agricultural society, with most people living in small villages and communities. However, the country began to urbanize rapidly in the post-war period, with a corresponding increase in cultural and artistic activity.
One of the most significant developments in Norwegian pop music was the emergence of the "New Wave" movement in the late 1970s and early 1980s. This movement was characterized by its rejection of traditional rock and roll and a focus on experimental, avant-garde music. Many of the New Wave bands were influenced by European punk and new wave bands such as Joy Division and Bauhaus, and their music was often characterized by angular guitar riffs, electronic drums, and minimalist production.
One of the most successful New Wave bands in Norway was De Press, who formed in Oslo in 1980. The band's music was characterized by its fusion of punk rock, new wave, and traditional Norwegian folk music, and they quickly gained a loyal following both in Norway and abroad. Other notable New Wave bands from Norway include The Aller Værste!, Kjøtt, and Raga Rockers.
In the 1990s, Norwegian pop music began to move in a more electronic direction, with the emergence of a new generation of techno and house music producers. This was partly due to the influence of the British rave scene, which had a significant impact on youth culture across Europe. One of the most influential Norwegian techno producers was Biosphere, who became famous for his ambient and atmospheric soundscapes. Other notable electronic producers from Norway include Mental Overdrive, Rune Lindbæk, and Bjørn Torske.
The 2000s saw the rise of a new generation of Norwegian pop stars who achieved international success. One of the most successful of these was the singer and songwriter Sondre Lerche, who became famous for his catchy, melodic pop songs. Another notable Norwegian pop star from this era was Annie, who achieved success with her blend of electronic pop and indie rock. Other notable Norwegian pop artists from this period include Röyksopp, Datarock, and Kaizers Orchestra.
Norwegian pop music has continued to evolve and diversify in recent years, with a growing emphasis on experimental and avant-garde music. One of the most successful Norwegian pop acts of the 2010s was the electronic duo Lemaitre, who
